Event 153 : Visit to Orphanage ‘ASHIANA’

A Sunday visit by NGO Tammana to ‘ Ashiana’ – a Govt. run Orphanage for Girls , Sector 15 C, Chandigarh; turned into to an eye opening & a humbling experience for the entire team.

The orphanage has newly borns left in cradle outside the premise , children of rape victims, children with HIV , children with parents in jail , orphans , or simply those who cannot afford their upbringing and other children with various other reasons.’

Warmly welcomed by the supervisor, who graciously invited the Team to her office where the children lined up beaming with delight and innocence.
Balloons & Treats / packed food as kits prepared in advance, to brighten their day and the festive season were hereby distributed; shared Members Harpreet Kaur & Prabhjeet Singh Grover.

Founder Isha Kakaria ; shared that the team had the privilege of conversing with the supervisor, delving into the backgrounds of some of the girls, learning about their abilities, and gaining insights into the adoption process.

‘Importantly, we took great care to respect the privacy and safety of the girls by refraining from taking any photographs of them’ ; shared Intern , Kritika.

Furthermore, we were able to observe some of the other children on live camera feed.
Children were seeing playing with balloons given to them.
Additionally, we saw a room through cameras where six newborns were either sleeping or being fed by the dedicated staff. It was heartfelt sight for all who witnessed it.

The visit was an eye-opening and humbling experience, providing us with a deeper understanding of the challenges and resilience of these children.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ashiana for opening their doors to us, and we eagerly anticipate the prospect of collaborating with them more closely in the future, concluded Office Coordinator, Meenakshi Mahajan.
