Event 80 : Earth Day
He who plants trees, loves others besides himself. With this thought and as a part of ‘Earth Day’ celebrations, NGO Tammana organized a Tree Plantation Drive at Government Model School, Sector 28C, Chandigarh, on 22nd April. This drive was supported by none other than 30 children with special needs who study under the ‘Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan’ scheme. It was the first time that these children were part of such a drive and along came the enthusiasm of planting a tree. The children named their respective saplings & wholeheartedly enjoyed the process and pledged to take care of their new possession by regularly watering these plants. Tammana members discussed with the children on how trees help in balancing the ecosystem and are an essential part of our life cycle. There were a few questions related to the environment also thrown in-between which the children answered and won gifts from the NGO. There was also snacks distribution among these children as a part of this event. This plantation drive was a fun event for these children, that also taught them the value of a clean and green environment.
NGO Tammana has been actively promoting greenery, and organizing such events to play its part in fighting global warming and pollution. Recently, there was a free distribution of plant saplings by Tammana to the general public in a city mall. In this plantation drive also, there were 60 air purifying trees planted, all varied , ranging from Ashoka to fruit trees like mango, as well as floral plants. Mother Earth needs more and more volunteers like Tammana to come forward, plant trees and encourage others to create a healthier, cleaner future for generations to come. This was aptly put to words by one of the NGO members, Rishabh Sood – We are responsible for our future generations, and only our efforts of today will help build a greener future for them. Apurva Kohli, another Tammana member, quoted – By getting the children involved in this event, we have ignited the spark in them to carry this light of a pollution-free, clean environment throughout their lives.
